After Hanoi we travelled by bus south west to Ninh Binh from where we did a trip to Tam Coc and Kenh Garh with very nice scenery - enormous limestone cliffs rising from the rice fields and canals-despite the rain which now seems to be following us-is it monsoon season? We then flew back to Da Nang and then took bus to Hoi An which is a lovely French Vietnamese town mid way down Vietnam with old French style buildings and coffee shops. Met a couple of Canadian guys and an English biker and his girlfriend and managed to keep the whole hotel awake until about three in the morning much to the consternation of the security guard trying to keep us quiet! We have since met the Canadians again in Nha Trang but have not seen the biker since! After Hoi An we spent 10 days in Nha Trang which is a lively beach resort and went on a great boat trip which involved all nationalities doing a song from their own country together with the impropmtu band set up on the boat-you will be disappointed to hear Martin that I didnt get up and sing this time!! We hooked up with a group of Australian girls -all very nice and although they all fancied the good looking young Swedes on the boat they had to make do with surrogate -me- and I was named Swedish boyfriend by one! We then proceeded to the bars of Nha Trang and finished up in the late night Sailing club until the early hours-some not getting home until 9am we heard after! Although the EYC is missed we are making do!!
After Nha Trang we travelled by bus to Saigon and visited the History museum which was very interesting although quite upsetting with the terrible atrocities committed against the Vietnamese people by the Americans during the war-ware doing some culture although we did retire to the Sheraton hotel rooftop bar for a cocktail to brighten our mood. I thought that there were a lot of motorbikes in Hanoi but Saigon is something else-crossing the road is nigh on impossible- be careful I hear you say Mum!!
The computer I am typing this on at the moment is seriously playing up so I think I will publish this and try again to complete blog after!!
