We have now moved on to Australia since the last blog which seems a long time ago now. After leaving Cebu we visited Malapascua which is a beautiful island in Phillipines but with little to do apart from read and sunbathe- not too much of a problem! After going back to Manila for flight to Bangkok we then flew to Phuket due to a shortage of time before our next booked flight to Kuala Lumpur and spent a lazy ten days in Patong at a very nice seafront room close to where we had stayed a few years before. Had a very good birthday celebrating at bars in Phuket although it was supposed to be Buddha day with no alcohol served anywhere we managed to find some and ended up taking two Thai girls back to our hotel for a drink and swim in our pool as the sun was coming up. Got to bed about 8.30am!! After this we flew to Kuala Lumpur and a whistle stop tour of the city and look at Petronas towers-about 100 storey high building.
We then made our way to Tioman Island which I visited 20 years before We met some great local people who were very hospitable and kept us up most nights until late having fun. Three particular guys Tania met one night when I must have gone to bed early-they had English translations to their names which were Easy, Azmi and Away! which Tania found very amusing! They were very friendly people and made our time there very enjoyable. Did some amazing snorkelling in the local reefs where I saw turtles, enormous parrotfish and others. One time with Tania I heard a shout 'Shark' looked down and swimming past was a very large but harmless shark about 10 feet away! After dragging ourselves away we moved on to Singapore after a quick stop where Tania was born in Kluang. We found the church she was christened and where she used to live which was nice. Another quick tour of Singapore where I got ripped off buying a camera filter- I found the same one I had bought earlier for about half the price about an hour after I had bought it!-and then we flew to Cairns via a stop off in Brisbane.

We spent about 4 days at a backpackers hostel where we met a great couple, Steve and Frankie from Melbourne who we spent most of our time with staying up sharing stories, visiting the local casino where for some reason I got thrown out followed by Tania shortly after. Steve and Frankie eventually found us both outside unable to get back in. Steve was quite happy as he walked out winning over 200 dollars unfortunately Steve B wasnt so lucky!! We went on a boat trip from Cairns to Michelmas Cay which was a very pleasant day and soon after hired a campervan which we used to travel down the coast to Brisbane after first going up to Cape Tribulation in the north. We loved the rainforest up north and stayed in some great campsites right in the middle spotting wallabies and other wildlife with our torches which tended to come out at night. Couldnt find any crocodiles but warning signs were everywhere so perhaps it was lucky we didn't.

Stopped off at Airlie beach on the way south where we did a sailing trip around the Whitsunday islands on a large catamaran with buffet lunch on board in the sun-very pleasant! Managed to meet a couple of fun people both men who had been thrown out of home for being naughty by their wives and were staying at the campsite until they were allowed back! One was originally from Jersey, the other a native Aussie who spent most of his time drunk. I went out to a local bar with him one night where he got thrown out for not wearing shoes. After buying some new thongs the doorman wouldn't let him back in anyway so we found another bar which let us in and carried on! Craig, the other guy was eventually allowed home to his wife and left the site the same time as us. We did another reef trip from here on a gorgeous day which was great.

Visited Noosa which is a very expensive beautiful town on the coast with river running through and million dollar homes with boats moored outside. Stayed in a great campsite there right on the river with beach view from our camper.
Now in Brisbane where we met up and are staying with our friend 'dangerous' Derek and his lovely wife Napat. We have already had two great boat trips on his very flash motorboat around the sand islands close by. Have thoroughly enjoyed Australia generally and seen Kangaroos, Wallabies, a Cassowray(big endangered indigenous bird from rainforest), turtles, every type of reef fish, koalas(in the zoo!)kookaburras-we are still into our twitching! etc etc . Staying here until next weekend and then off to Sydney. Nice to have some time in the same bed here in Brisbane! but looking forward to next leg of trip. Can't believe it is nearing the end of August though- soon be home- oh dear! Weather clear blue sky every day here and it is the Aussie winter- maybe we will stay! See following blog for Australian photos
