Since the last blog we have moved on from Thailand. We flew to Chiang Mai and after short trek with elephant ride, bamboo rafting and forest walking we moved north to Chiang Rai. We then visited a hill tribe village and stayed at the Akha hill lodge wich was very quiet and peaceful. Walked in forest/jungle and swam in waterfall. After a couple of days we went in search of more action and after a bus ride to Chiang Khong on the border we got a boat across the Mekhong to Laos. We have since done a two day boat ride down the Mekhong to Luang Prabang.
Unfortunately at this time of year in Laos there is a lot of old crop burning so there is a constant haze and smell in the air. It seems to be a beautiful country despite this and would be nice to revisit when the air is clear and you can see the lovely green counryside. We are either heading to Vang Vieng tomorrow or possibly a short trip north to a small village on the Nam Ou river - decisions, decisions!!
Despite some of the photos, the food here is good and cheap with the old french influence in evidence-baguettes for breakfast!! The beer is pretty good too-BeerLao which is very nice is only 65 pence a pint, so taking advantage! If only the pound hadn't sunk so much we might not have come home although Tania might not agree as she has only been allowed two glasses of wine so far, as that is quite expensive!
Will probably blog next at end of Laos travels-about two more weeks before we travel overland to Vietnam

Wow,
You guys certainly are living it up!!! You don't know what it's like living in the real world. The evenings here are just starting to stay brighter. Thankfully making the days longer. "Tania, the Verdana's will be calling for us soon" to do a little Boat Spotting with a glass of wine in hand!!! Will have to get Siobhan to replce you for now. Hope you are both well . Stupid question of me to ask really isn't it Steve? Forgotten already what you both look like. The CAMPER is ok, hasn't been used much as yet, as the weather has been crap!! Mike and I plan to use it over Easter sometime. Joan and Mary to. So just to keep you updated.
Looking forward to the photos from Vietnam.
Cheers Tania !! I'll have one or two for you.
